CHRISTMAS FTW!

Christmas is here and I was too busy(new job), too tired(new job), sick(flu), too confused(moving out/moving in), too numb(every one of my music projects on hold because of the aforementioned facts) to (almost not)notice! But, I love my messy life (everything except the flu) and I love Christmas. So, just before Xmas ends, here are 3 of my favorite Christmas movies! Yay!

#3 "A Christmas Carol". Either its the awesome 1988 Bill Murray version, either its this 1984 version with the awesome George C. Scott, either it's the Blackadder version, "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is my absolute favorite "Christmas Classic" story and I love it as a Film/TV Movie adaptation.

#2 "Home Alone" (1990), directed by Chris Columbus . Macaulay Culkin grew up to be a nut case, there were sequels and they sucked but this movie even after a thousand viewings remains pure fun to watch.

#1 "Hook" (1991), directed by Steven Spielberg. Christmas + Peter Pan + Robin Williams as Pan + Dustin Hoffman as Hook + Spielberg directing a children's story + Maggie Smith as Wendy Darling + Bob Hoskins as Smee =ABSOLUTE WIN.

CONSPIRACIES, THE OLD SCHOOL WAY: 80's MOVIES, PART 2

These three movies are geek Heaven: Conspiracies, top secret government projects, old school computers, aliens secretly living among humans, more old school computers.. And, to add to the awesomness each movie has it's own element of genius: "Jumpin' Jack Flash" has Whoopi, "They Live" has Carpender's touch and "War Games" has young Matthew Broderick and global thermonuclear war!

#3 The 1986 film "Jumpin' Jack Flash", directed by Penny Marshall.

#2 The 1988 film "They Live", directed by John Carpenter.

#1 The 1983 film "War Games", directed by John Badham.

MURIEL'S WEDDING, (1994)

MURIEL'S WEDDING

"Muriel's Wedding",(1994) written and directed by P.J.Hogan.

-"You're terrible, Muriel!"

I mean seriously what's not to like in this film? What can beat Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths sunk in a world of

crazy relatives,

MURIEL'S WEDDING

bitchy friends,

MURIEL'S WEDDING

and ABBA music?

MURIEL'S WEDDING

Watching this movie again made me realize how much I love these two actrices and how much I love this film overall! And of course how much I love THIS scene:

WITHNAIL AND I, (1987)

WITHNAIL AND I

"Withnail and I", (1987) written and directed by Bruce Robinson.

The first time I saw this film, I was 14 or 15. At the time, there was this incredible new TV channel that seemed to have come directly from "The Twilight Zone" or "Nightflight". It appeared out of the blue and it was broadcasting in a completely unorthodox TV broadcasting way (weird repeats, short animated films instead of ads). Thanks to this channel in 4 years (it was later bought by a network and became a weird, forgotten, no man's TV land) I was introduced to shows like "Blackadder", "Kids in the Hall", "The Twilight Zone", "Fawlty Towers" and other cult classics. It was like a weird cult pop culture marathon and I loved it.

So, one Saturday evening, I tuned in and there I was, watching the beginning of a film that I didn't know what it was, but, didn't have time to think about it, since, in the first 5 minutes I found myself laughing like crazy. I was completely sucked in and I remember panicking when the film ended, because this channel didn't have a broadcasting schedule like the rest of the "standard" TV channels, so I thought I would never find out the name of the film! (These were the days before Google, kids). I was so frustrated because this was an extraordinary film! It was just perfect: funny, sad, the actors were incredible, the script was hilarious and so on.

But, since this was such a weird channel, one late night they showed the film again! And that time I was paying attention and I found out it was called "Withnail and I". It wasn't until a few years ago that I bought the DVD and watched a Channel 4 documentary included in the extras, that I realized that this film is legendary in the UK..

I love this film. I have watched it so many times and yet it's still perfect every single time. Here is the trailer and 2 of my favorite scenes:

A SHORT LIST OF SHORT MARVELS: TBT TOP 3 ADS FROM THE EARLY 00'S

top3ads

There are 3 ads that have a very special place in TBT universe. I recently mentioned one of them in a previous post, so it was just a matter of time until I did a separate post with all 3 gathered together.

In order of preference, here are 3 of the most spectacular ads I ever watched:

#3
"Balls": Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig for Sony Bravia "Color like.no.other" campaign (2005). Song "Heartbeats" by José González (originally written and performed by The Knife).

#2 "Le passage": Directed by Michel Gondry for Air France (1999). Song "Asleep from day" by the Chemical Brothers (ft. Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star).

#1 "Odyssey": Directed by Jonathan Glazer for Levi's (2002). Music "Sarabande" by G.F. Handel from the Suite in D minor for solo harpsichord (arranged by John Altman).
